War News Update: Shelling kills 11 in Dnipropetrovsk region as questions remain over explosions deep inside Russian-occupied Crimea

Eleven people have been killed following a Russian shelling attack in Ukraine’s central Dnipropetrovsk region, the area’s governor has said.

Valentyn Reznychenko said Russia “directed 80 rockets at residential areas” while “people were sleeping in their homes”.

It comes after one person was killed in a series of blasts at a Russian military air base close to seaside resorts on the annexed Crimean peninsula on Tuesday – some 200km inside Russian-held territory.

There have been questions about what caused the explosions, given that the rockets supplied with US-donated HIMARS launcher systems are believed to have a range of around 85km.

There was speculation that the base had been hit by missiles but Russia claimed that ammunition had detonated. . .
